Effectively Controlling Broiler Ammonia with EM Technology®

Effectively Controlling Broiler Ammonia with EM Technology®

Introduced in 1982, EM Technology® is widely used in over 120 countries in all forms of agriculture and livestock management to clean water, control odor, manage wastes, and promote healthier animals.

  • Reduce levels of harmful pathogens
  • Reduce ammonia levels
  • Prevent corrosion

EM Technology® is offered as a liquid microbial product including several strains of naturally-occurring microbes from three groups: Yeast, Photosynthetic Bacteria, and Lactic Acid Bacteria. EM Technology® contains dozens of enzymes (including lipase, protease, and cellulase), trace minerals, amino acids, and vitamins (including B1, B2, B6, B9, and B12) that help it establish a pleasant environment with safer levels of ammonia and hydrogen sulfide.

Optimal health of the poultry operation is achieved when EM Technology® is applied from the time young chicklets arrive from the hatchery, until the day they leave.

EM APPLICATION

Litter Treatment Lt1000TM

Users of Lt1000TM show ammonia levels as low as 0ppm (average 5-6ppm). Ammonia supports putrefaction and pathogen growth. Lt1000TM has an antioxidant effect and resists putrefaction, prevents noxious odors, and controls pathogen growth.

The method below is for broilers. Layers are in production for longer periods and require repeated applications of Lt1000TM. Apply Lt1000TM through a misting or fogging system to control the odours in poultry houses.

Setting up a fogger would be ideal to run constantly to suppress ammonia. That would be at a 1:100 solution. Set on a timer to alternate sprays at 3-5 minute intervals and run for 30 seconds to 1 minute. The fogger would cycle longer in the winter when there is less ventilating and less in the summer when there is more ventilating.

Prior to Placement of Birds

(once per flock):

  1. Use Lt1000TM to clean poultry housing.
  2. Spray & wash all surfaces of poultry housing with a diluted solution of Lt1000TM in water at a 1:500 ratio.
  3. Add litter.
  4. Spray or top-dress Lt1000TM onto litter at 0.003125 gallon per square foot (1 gallon per 320 square feet) of housing. Dilute in just enough water to cover floors.
  5. Total Lt1000TM per house will vary by size of the house and the age of the litter.

EFFECTS & RESULTS

  • Reduce ammonia levels
  • Prevent corrosion
