USE OF EM 1. After harvesting 235 kilos (125 kilos/acre or 315 kilos/ha) of Bokashi is spread on sludge at the bottom of a pond. 2. Water is pumped and filtered into the pond to prevent many kinds of fries and their eggs until it is 90-100 centimetres high. 3. Two hundred litres of multiplied EM/rai are put in the pond and leave for 5-7 days. Water is aerated 4-5 hours/day, during 5-7 days. Four days before launching, 30 kilos of Bokashi/rai are spread throughout the pond for having plankton. 4. Two hundred litres of multiplied EM are sprayed every 5 days alternate with 25 litres of EM5 until they are 70 days old. 5. For 70-120 days old, multiplied EM and EM5 the same amount as the above are sprayed every three days until they are harvested. 6. Ten kilos of feed are mixed with 1.5 litres of multiplied EM, and leave for 4 hours before feeding. The excess of feed will destroy pentose and cause us to lose the balance of the environment, which is harmful. WATER MONITORING During the growing period, water quality is very important to them. If it loses the balance of nature, the prawns might be weak, unappetizing and dead. So the water is monitored like this: 1. pH is checked two times a day, in the morning and evening. If the differences between morning and evening are more than 0.5, multiplied EM will be sprayed in the pond. 2. Ammonia will be checked if the water becomes dark green. Forty litres of EM5 will be sprayed in the pond if there is too much ammonia. 3. If salinity reduces less than 10 ppt, a small bag of salt (200grams) will be added and mixed with 10 kilos of feed and multiplied EM. 4. If there are too many algae, the water has to be stopped to aerate in the daytime. 5. Two-three litres of EM5 will be sprayed into the pond if there are toxic plankton, Zootanium and Anabaena. 6. When the colour of water becomes smoky white which is harmful to prawns, seven kilos (4 kilos/acre or 9 kilos/ha) of Bokashi will be spread. DISEASES 1. Be careful not to buy infected baby prawns. 2. If disease happens such as red body, white spot, luminescence disease and other infections of Vibrio spp. or Escherichia coli, one litre of EM5 will be mixed with 10 kilos of feed and leave for four hours before feeding every day for a week. 3. Ten litres of multiplied EM will be sprayed in the pond if the prawns float on the surface of the water. 4. Forty litres of EM5 will be sprayed into the pond if they cannot moult because of too many algae.
